The world’s first driverless race was not the only milestone reached at this year’s Formula E event in Buenos Aires. Swiss racecar driver, Sebastian Buemi, became the first to win three Formula E rounds in a row on Saturday 18 February.
The ex-Formula One race driver won all three races this season for the Renault e.dams team with Buenos Aires following on from Hong Kong and Morocco.
Buemi’s challenger, Lucas di Grassi, had an early lead with Buemi starting in third place. Di Grassi’s Abt Schaeffler FE02 could just not match the ferocity of Buemi’s factory machine, and Buemi quickly slipped into the lead around the first corner.
Buemi has scored the ‘hat-trick of wins’ and now stands 29 points ahead of di Grassi going into the next race in Mexico City on April 1. With nine more races to go, Buemi is keen to keep accelerating.
“We need to build up some points … these things never last for ever,” Buemi said. “My team did a great job — let’s hope it continues for a few more races. At the end of the day I’m really happy.”
It is also a proud day for Renault e.dams, having won half of all the Formula E races that have taken place.
